Electric Locomotive

An electric locomotive is a kind of traction equipment for rail car. An electric locomotive is driven by the traction motor. Its traction force is decided not only by the power of the traction motor or diesel engine but also by the friction between wheels and rails. There are some limitations on the travalling slope of the electric locomotive. The slope ratio of the transport track is normally 0.3 percent and local slope ratio should be no more than 3 percent.

Generally, an electric locomotive consists of the mechanical part and the electrical part. The mechanical part includes frame, wheel, bearing box, spring bracket, brake device, connection buffer device, etc. The electrical part includes DC series excitation motor, controller, resistance box, pantograph, air automatic switch or explosion-proof bolt, battery, etc.
